Stress & Diabetes: 5 Stress Reduction Tips

Be assertive: Try being assertive instead of aggressive. "Assert" your feelings, opinions or beliefs instead of becoming angry or defensive to reduce stress.

Get enough rest and sleep: Your body needs time to recover from stressful events and stressful people who may be in your life. Take a nap in the afternoon or try to sleep a little late on the weekends.

Do something special or fun: Experts suggest that we need to "activate" that child inside us every now and then. Try buying a game or toy that may put a smile on your face.

Be willing to forgive others: Allowing others the right to make mistakes goes a long way in reducing our stress. Sometime we just have to assume that others are doing the best they can, even if they do not measure up to our standards.

Take a walk:  Exercise is a great way to reduce stress. It helps your body produce endorphins that make you feel good. Walking has other benefits that will help your diabetes such as calorie burning and weight control.
